Workshop on Electrical Stimulation

Workshop on Electrical Stimulation - ESSD CONGRESS AND COURSE

A full day workshop on Electrical Stimulation in the Treatment of Dysphagia will be run at the Malmö University Hospital on Wednesday 11 September from 8.30 am. The workshop has been designed by ESSD with the support of Vitalstim by Chattanooga. Registration is on the congress registration form, and you can click on programme(under workshop and symposium).

The use of electrical stimulation (E-stim ) in managing dysphagia has gained increasing attention amongst  clinicians and researchers working on dysphagia. Such techniques are becoming a routine part of  treatment among several international facilities and clinics.

The workshop will provide participants with a global overview of electrical stimulation options for dysphagia management including

  1. Central Nervous System Strategies - this will introduce repetitive trans-cranial magnetic stimulation and tran-cranial Direct Current stimulation.
  2. Perpheral Nervous System Strategies - introducing Sensory level stimulation at intrapharyngeal and  transcutaneous level  and Motor level of stimulations.

The workshop will provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of Electrical Stimulation principles and physiological rationale in swallowing rehabilitation with hands on opportunity to apply Vitalstim Therapy techniques for Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation. Vitalstim Therapy is the most established and documented NMES technique for Dysphagia management.
